60 SeribuI Islands Residents Participate in Free Diving Training

The Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency cooperated with Scuba Schools International hold free diving training on Pramuka Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, Seribu Utara District. This training was attended by 60 participants from six urban villages in the Seribu Islands.

Head Section of Maritime and Fishery of the Sub-agency, Gama Eka Anantha said the training aims to provide a basic understanding of safe diving techniques while opening up new economic opportunities for coastal communities.
"The training, which lasted for four days, is attended by dozens of participants consisting of the DPL-BM Group, conservation activists, and young people who are looking for work," she said, Thursday (5/7).

"Training participants practice diving using diving equipment in the waters of Pramuka Island," she added.
Participants who pass the competency test at the end of the training will receive a Basic Diving certification from SSI.
"This training is not only a means of education, but also creates coastal communities that are more skilled, independent, and ready to compete in the marine economic sector," she explained.
Head of Panggang Island Urban Village, Jamaluddin, appreciated the training. He hopes that similar activities can be carried out sustainably so that more residents have officially recognized diving skills and certifications.
"Diving skills can open up job opportunities in the tourism, conservation and other marine activities sectors," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the participants, Sophian (27), admitted the training was a valuable experience for him.
According to him, the cost of diving training has been relatively expensive, so this free program is very helpful for people who want to have professional diving skills.
"This training is important because it can be an additional skill for finding work," he admitted.
